ZEST Cafe & Restaurant @ The Sphere, Bangsar South

‘Tasty food is often not healthy and healthy food is not tasty’, well that is what most people think, ask Mr Ong—the food technologist/owner of the ZEST Cafe & Restaurant and he will tell you a different story ;) Located inside The SphereBangsar South, this lovely healthy food restaurant with a Mediterranean inspired menu is definitely the place to be in if your’re looking for some tasty and healthy meals which wouldn’t burden the body with too much MSG, saturated fat or other synthetic food additives.

ZEST Cafe & Restaurant @ 1st floor, The Sphere, Bangsar South
lovely homey interior of the restaurant ^^
soothing ambiance with a pretty nice view from the 1st floor of The Sphere :)

wonderful place for couples and family ^^
a quick glance of the menu

Since started the business back at 2011, ZEST Cafe & Restaurant pride themselves in serving up healthy MSG-free food with low fat and sugar, on top of that olive oil has been the fundamental cooking oil for all the western mains in the restaurant according to the owner, a big thumbs up for the dedicated health food restaurant which certainly live up to their tagline—— 'Food for the body, and food for the soul' b^^d

Among the signature dishes served, my personal favourites goes to the aromatic Pan Grilled Salmon which were nicely seasoned and perfectly cooked, the tender, moist and flavourful salmon cut is simply too alluring to resist ;)

Pumpkin Soup (RM 6.5)
Zest Salad, a colorful and healthy mix of fresh salads with grilled pan grilled prawns, zucchini, aubergine and pumpkin
tossed in balsamic dressing (RM 17.5)
Rosemary Roast Chicken. The flavor was well balanced between the rosemary and roast chicken,
nice sharing dish (whole RM 38, half RM 21)
Pan Grilled Salmon with Lemon Capers Sauce , those tender, moist and flavourful thick cut
never fails to make me drool :P (RM 38.8)

Just in case you're not a meat person, another favourite of mine, the Aubergine Spinach Lasagna is what you shouldn't overlook here at ZEST Cafe & Restaurant, the natural home-blend hearty tomato sauce is what standout to me for this dish, and trust me if you have had enough of those heavy, cheesy, stick-to-your-guts kinda lasagna, try this to even up the score ;)

Aubergine Spinach Lasagna, love the healthy sense via the spinach and hearty tomato sauce b^^d (RM 19.8)
Prawn Spaghetti Alla Pesto. If you're wondering, yup the pesto sauce is homemade too ^^  (RM 19.5)
A healthy, wholesome dinner b^^d
after meal dessert, lovely pancake with homemade mango and chocolate ice cream,
a sweet ending to the satisfying night. ;)

Huck’s Cafe- Private kitchen @ Bangsar, KL

If you feel like dining in a restaurant sounds too mainstream, well here’s something else that might be of your interest. Situated in a rather quiet neighborhood of Bangsar, Huck’s Cafe is an interesting home setting restaurant which serves authentic home cooking via recipes acquired by the owner himself Mr. Huck Seng while travelling to different countries. Hence the list of cuisines varies from Asian Fusion to Western, Mexican, Italian etc. and needless to say, since it’s a home dining serving authentic home-cooked food, everything is prepared fresh using mostly organic vegetables, spices, herbs without MSG, additives nor colouring (Huck’s Café, 2010). ^^

Huck's Cafe @ No.22 Jalan Abdullah.. Not an ordinary restaurant façade huh ;)
cozy and homey designs where guests are to remove their shoes/slip before entering  into something comfy & relaxing :)

While drinks & appetizer were set for group, the rest of the dishes varies as we get to select our own starters (soups), main course, desserts & coffee/tea. We opted to the 'Surprise me!' menu which all we have to do is to inform our preferences in advance & a nicely prepared main course will be ready for us (thoughtful gesture especially for those allodoxaphobia :P). For a nett price of RM 88/pax, the dinning deal is pretty decent for an exclusive private kitchen experience whether you're hosting a private function or simply having an easy dinner with friends.

a refreshing drink to start the night: Basil Seed Mint Soda.
appetiser, nice pairing of keropok + serawak acar.
aromatic and rich Wild Mushroom Soup, love the fact that it wasn't over creamy.
I choose lamb as my main course as it is relatively challenging to deal with compared to chicken & seafood. The lamb shank was good taste wise however it could have been better if It comes with a juicer & softer texture. One thing to be highlight here would be the mashed potato, Huck's cafe definitely has a great mashed potatoes recipe as this is one of the best mashed potato that I've tasted in town, extra credit for the dish b^^d

Lamb Shank with Garlic Mashed Potato
Seafood Spaghetti with a pretty interesting combination of sambal spices, one unique fusion of Huck's cafe East-Meets-West series ;)
Grilled Salmon which taste decent but nothing outstanding to shout for compared to the other mains we had.
Ginger-lemongrass Iced Tea which came just in time to revitalize our overpowered taste buds before the desserts.
Winning dish of the night, the tasty, smooth, rich & creamy Crème Brûlée! This is something that I would keep in my 'best desserts list' for quite some time. :P
Ended the night  with a lovely cup of warm Earl Grey Tea.^^

'Meet & Greet' with Amina (Masterchef Australia Contestant) @ Blu Med MIdvalley

I bet most of us will come across with television cooking show from time to time, some are pretty challenging while some are quite homely..  Have you ever wonder whether those awesome looking chef really have such good cooking skill or did those dishes that prepared on television are merely for display only? Well that’s one thing that I always wanted to know, which brings me to the following Nuffanng tastebuddies event--- 'Meet & Greet' session with Masterchef Australia contestant- Amina ‏:P

Being held at Blu Med Ristoranre e Bar, the meet & greet session was one of my highly-anticipated event as I finally had a chance to try out some dishes of this opulent setting restaurant which located right at the middle of Gardens and Mid Valley Megamall.. AND that’s not all, besides a simply meet & greet, we get to try out a specially prepared dessert by Amina! Awesome right :)

Blu Med @ The Boulevard MidValley City
So how was the event, is it great? Well yes & no.. A big Yes for the meet & greet session with Amina El Shafei & a regretfully no for Blu Med.. :9

Watching this talented & surprisingly young (age is a woman's secret, so I won’t tell you that she is only 29..Opss :P) Masterchef Australia Contestant preparing dessert live is definitely an enjoyable experience. The passion this smart, funny & lovely lady for food, freedom & great life is definitely what I like the most, we somehow shared similar philosophy of life XD * hi-five*

Live dessert making session via Masterchef Australia Contestant Amina El Shafei :)

Walah~ done ^^
Steamed Pandan Cakes with Lychee
As for Blu Med, the genuine concept of Mediterranean + Italian fusion is impressive, same goes to its interior/design which is warm, simply & yet elegant. However claiming to be the new baby of renowned IronChef Yasuhiro Sasajima & have all their dishes executed by expert Italian and international chefs, the food just doesn’t really live up to my expectation.

Blu Med- warm & elegant
Blu Med- interior

Since it is a Mediterranean & Italian fusion, I suppose freshness, unique/colourful plating and of course mouthwatering poultry, seafood, beans, pastas & Olive oil are to be expected. Well for Blu Med plating wise they did a good job & they do score well for the criteria of uniqueness as some of the dishes are quite special, but taste wise, a total disappointment with nothing to shout about for :’( perhaps the buffet style presentation for food tends to compromise some of their taste & quality?

erm.. at least the colour looks nice, I like blue :P
Roasted Baby Potatoes with Garlic and Rosemary
Linguine with Squid, Cherry Tomatoes and Basil

Cutlet Dory with Ligurian Sauce
Chicken Breast with Mango Salsa

my own platting XD
Anyway, overall the event was great, thanks to Lifetime (Astro channel 709) for bringing in Amina & thanks to Nuffanng tastebuddies for the invitation, cheers~ b^^d
