Guinness Flavour by Fire Festival @ The Gasket Alley, Petaling Jaya


Guinness Flavour by Fire festival celebrates all things roasted, grilled and BBQ’d; thousands of foodies turn up to feast on specially-curated dishes paired with cold, smooth Guinness Draught.

Fire is a force with an awesome transformative power. When it comes to food, fire is what turns simple raw ingredients into mouth-watering meals. Guinness, Malaysia’s No. 1 Stout, understands this better than anyone – the barley used to brew Guinness is roasted at exactly 232° Celsius, which gives the beer its distinctive dark colour and delicious roasted flavour notes.

Celebrating this transformative power of fire, the Guinness Flavour by Fire festival brought together some of KL’s hottest chefs and musicians for a two-day feast for the senses at The Gasket Alley in Petaling Jaya. Serving up a range of delectable dishes for the thousands of hungry party-goers in attendance were five chefs, each with their own signature styles and techniques.
Celebrity chef Sapna Anand, from GOA by Sapna, took inspiration from traditional Indian barbeque recipes for her menu, including her signature Kashmiri lamb chops. Marinated in roasted spices and citrus and cooked over a charcoal grill, the beautifully tender lamb with its delicate balance of flavours and flame-seared exterior paired perfectly with the cold, smooth Guinness Draught.

Chefs Sherson Lian and Johnny Fua from Kitchen Mafia put on an eclectic mix of dishes, melding Western and Asian influences to create surprising takes on a range of favourites from seafood to duck. Cooked over an ‘outback-style open fire’, the duo used locally-sourced wood including bamboo and rubber wood to give each offering a unique flavour unlike anything cooked in a traditional kitchen.
Suren’s style, a mash-up of Southern USA, European, and Asian barbeque techniques, focused – as the name of his restaurant suggests –Tipsy Boar, focus on various cuts of pork. Artisanal chorizo and German sausages, Kansas-style spare ribs, and pork knuckle slathered in a Guinness glaze were cooked in a ‘low-and-slow’ style over wood from locally-grown mangrove and fruit-trees. The end result: melt-in-the-mouth, rich and satisfying dishes which had attendees clamouring for more.
Meanwhile, Pitmaster Kok Fung, from Texas Barbeque joint Burnin’ Pit, harnessed the power of fire in a similar way. His signature dish, dry-rubbed beef brisket, was smoked for over 12 hours to impart an incredible depth of flavour to the mouth-wateringly tender meat. The wood used in the smoker – tropical fruit trees such as mango, jackfruit and durian – added a Malaysian twist to his authentic, rustic style. Served up with pickled mangos, gherkins and jalapenos and a smoky Gula Melaka and berry barbeque sauce, the cold, smooth Guinness contrasted with the sharp and sweet flavours of the sides and the richness of the meat to create a well-rounded flavour experience.

This being a Guinness event, there were plenty of other activities to keep attendees entertained after they had feasted on all the food on offer. Performances from fan favourites Kyoto Protocol, K-Town Clan, Crinkle Cut, Church Mouse and Skits got people moving on Day 1 of Guinness Flavour by Fire, while Day 2 saw Jumero, Kaya, Dani Komari, Samantha Diana and Muzza and Arjuna take the stage to heat things up.

Perhaps the most popular activity was the Guinness STOUTie machine – a device which uses a malt extract to print a selfie directly onto the head of a glass of Guinness. Previously only available at the Guinness Storehouse in Dublin, Ireland, hundreds of people lined up to get this exclusive opportunity at Flavour by Fire!

Finally, the return of the Guinness Long Bar Challenge – previously seen at Guinness St. Patrick’s Day events – gave party-goers the chance to get their hands on exclusive Guinness merchandise by sliding a bottle of Guinness down a bar in a test of skill and precision. T-shirts, bottles of Guinness-infused steak and barbeque sauces, and handmade Guinness chopping boards – perfect for serving up your own home-made fire-kissed dishes – went home with the winners across both days of Flavour by Fire.

Carlsberg’s “pursuit of better” has been encapsulated in the brand’s iconic history of 172 years since its establishment in Copenhagen, Denmark. The brand counts numerous ground-breaking milestones in its efforts to elevate the art of brewing, starting most notably with the establishment of the Carlsberg Laboratory in 1875 focusing on perfecting malting, brewing and fermentation.

The Carlsberg Laboratory’s scientific research led to the development of the world’s first pure yeast strain – S accharomyces car lsbergensis –by Carlsberg Laboratory scientist Emil Christian Hansen in 1883, a discovery which changed the face of modern brewing, as well as the pH scale by S.P.L. Sorensen in 1909 which is still used today. The laboratory continues to further the fields of chemical and genetic research that contribute toward its quality ingredients and improved brewing processes in its operations throughout the world.

The brand’s new look and feel is most visible on its packaging, coupled with three practical improvements that sees a new Fresh Cap on Carlsberg bottles, the same great brew served in premium-looking stem glasses, and cans that come in Easy-to-Open packs. These “betterments” are a result of Carlsberg’s efforts and belief in constant improvement and refinement in progressive pursuit of better beer. Carlsberg’s new Fresh Cap employs a cleverly designed scavenger liner that removes oxygen from the headspace in the bottle, so you get fresher taste up to five-times longer in Carlsberg’s bottled beer.

On the other hand, Carlsberg’s new glass features a bowl-shaped design and tapered head for a smoother pour, coupled with a stemmed chalice design and embossed details that make for a premium feel. What sets Carlsberg’s new stem glass apart from the rest is the laser-etched, hop leafshaped nucleation stamp at the bottom of the glass. The nucleation stamp creates many little pits and peaks where bubbles can form, generating more tiny bubbles that rise to the top. Because the bubbles continually replenish the foam (head), the beer maintains its head for significantly longer, which in turn helps retain the aroma of the beer, thus delivering a better beer experience.

The coating reduces scuffing which extends the bottles’ longevity, allowing them to look new and scratch-free for longer, reducing the need for bottles to be taken out of circulation for recycling.

IT’S SOMERTIME, ANYTIME WITH SOMERSBY~


There's nothing quite like being outdoors, basking under the sun to celebrate life’s little pleasure with family and friends, complete with a refreshing Somersby cider in hand. At the campaign launch preview held at Glasshouse @ Seputeh recently, three iconic Somertime Volkswagen Kombi vans with open hatch roofs and fold-out countertops, doubling up as Somersby bars, were unveiled to over 300 guests, trade partners and members of the press. The vehicles, decked with flamboyant Somersby branding are deployed to meet cider lovers through nationwide sampling activations celebrating life’s little pleasure when one enjoys a Somersby; as a happy hour drink or during gatherings with good friends; Anytime really!

During the launch gambit, Carlsberg Malaysia’s management team made a special appearance and served guests their favourite Somersby variants from the makeshift Somertime VW kombi van bars. For the social media lovers, lounge pockets such as garden swings, seesaws and ‘hang-out beds’ were the perfect chill out spot to get those Insta-worthy moments!

The Somertime, Anytime consumer engagement allows consumers to mix and match their favourite Somersby Apple, Blackberry & Sparkling Rosé variants. 在这里先为大家送上来至雪隆区两家餐厅的四款创意披萨料理尝新一下,首先为大家介绍的是数月前刚在PJ SS2重新营业的老字号肉食系餐厅The Butcher's Table,主打新鲜手作肉食料理的餐厅由原是屠夫的何老先生以及家人共同经营,这里的猪肉料理如份量十足的猪脚以及手制香肠等可是小区居民们的点赞美食哦 ;) 而本次主打的创意披萨料理——采用350公克纯肉制饼皮再覆盖满满牵丝起司的霸气肉食系披萨UltiMeat Pizza以及被金黄酥皮包裹着的厚馅爆酱起司披萨汉堡PizzBurger除了分量扎实卖相霸气以外做工还相当考究绝对是肉食爱好者一饱口福的绝佳选择 ;)

霸气肉食系披萨UltiMeat Pizza大胆的舍弃了披萨饼皮改以特别腌制过的厚切肉片取代,再覆盖以两种Anchor mixed cheeses为主的诱人起司以及烧肉灯笼椒等,暖呼呼上桌的肉食系披萨大口咬下绝对饱足感爆表啦,话说单单作为披萨基底的肉便是扎扎实实的350攻克超大分量所以还是建议大家分着吃啦一个人磕完的话估计挺撑 ;)

相较于全肉的UltiMeat Pizza以结合披萨汉堡为发想的PizzBurger则加入了金黄酥皮来取代一般的汉堡面包再佐以培根,下边则是厚厚肉馅及生菜,吃法参照汉堡连酥皮肉馅生菜一口咬下,多层次的口感和融合肉香的起司在嘴里爆发的感觉超棒der~ ^^
