Hokkaido Ramen Santouka @ Tokyo Street, Pavilion KL

Located at Tokyo Street of Pavilion KL (6th floor right section, on top of Harvey Norman), Hokkaido Ramen Santouka a.k.a. 山頭火 which started as a small ramen shop in Asahikawa, northernmost island of Hokkaido Japan back in 1988 has been named as one of the best ramen in KL since its opening years ago.

Hokkaido Ramen Santouka @ Tokyo Street, Pavilion KL.

After an impressive encounter with MarutamaRamen @Fahrenheit 88 a couple of weeks ago, I’ve decided to give this restaurant which happen to be one of the renowned ramen chains worldwide a try.

The restaurant with a huge noren & Japanese design chandelier is pretty standout & easy to spot among all the other Japanese themed outlets.
a glance at the menu.
cozy interior, full house on Sunday lunch hour ^^
Hokkaido Ramen Santouka @ Pavilion KL

I went straight back to the basic- Char Siu Ramen with Tonkotsu soup. The medium sized noodle ramen comes with menma (bamboo shoot), kikurage (jelly ear), char siu and signature umezuke (pickled plum) toppings which is quite presentable.

Char Siu Shio (salt flavor) Ramen, regular portion, RM 30

I enjoyed having the luscious Char Siu with heavy distinctive taste of pork. The soup which claim to be quite salty by some who've tried turn out to be just nice for me. The aromatic broth with good sense of sesame was good but not excellent as I was expecting the pork bones based soup to have a more robust flavours since it takes up to 20 hours of simmering time before ready for serving. The tender & soft noodles blend well with the soup which is just nice but it would be even better if it is more springy.. Forgive me if I’m too fussy, just trying to set up a reliable standard :P

Miso (soybean paste flavor) Ramen, small, RM 22.50
Kara- Miso (spicy soybean paste flavor) Ramen, regular, RM 27

Lastly before I forget, here's something most people doesn't know about Hokkaido Santouka Ramen.. The mild, pearl-colored Tonkotsu soup is a rather unique broth as it is never boiled throughout the preparation, this is a purposeful act to ensure its own exceptional taste and flavor, so your ramen will be at an optimum temperature for tasting once it is serves.. no waiting, simply dig in right away~ v^^v *Like*

Nuffnang Premiere Screening: Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit

Being the 1st movie of 2014 I did pray hard for Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit to be a nice one as I wouldn’t wanna start my 2014 premiere series with a sour note, and thanks to director Kenneth Branagh for not disappointing me :)

Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit, in cinemas 16 Jan 2014
Blending together 75% of action violence flicks, 15% of sex & 10% of humour & miscellaneous (fancy car, hi-tech gears, luxury setting etc..) , you get a lovely cocktail of standard Hollywood action thriller movie, in this case – we have Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit.. the recipe with slight modification here & there works like a charm almost every time & I bet it will continue to stay that way as it does cover all the audience's favourite elements. ^^

The actions & humour :)
The charms: Keira Knightley ;)
Story line: ‘Based on the character created by bestselling author Tom Clancy, "Jack Ryan" is a global action thriller set in the present day. The story centred around Jack Ryan (Chris Pine [Star Trek]) who appears to be an ordinary New York executive to his friends and loved ones, but his enlistment into the CIA secretly goes back years. He was brought in as a brainy Ph.D. who crunches global data – but when Ryan ferrets out a meticulously planned scheme to collapse the U.S. economy and spark global chaos, he becomes the only man with the skills to stop it. Now, he’s gone fully operational, thrust into a world of mounting suspicion, deception and deadly force. Caught between his tight-lipped handler Harper (Kevin Costner), his in-the-dark fiancée Cathy (Keira Knightley) and a brilliant Russian oligarch, Jack must confront a new reality where no one can seem to be trusted, yet the fate of millions rests on his finding the truth. With the urgency of a lit fuse, he’s in a race to stay one step ahead of everyone around him.’

Come back to the review, despite a rather predictable plot development and a typical happy ending where hero save the day, Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit still makes a nice bright spot in the early 2014. With its smooth story line, nicely arranged action scenes, staring by some of the talented actors Chris Pine & Keira Knightley, even though the brand new Hollywood action thriller doesn’t really standout due to the fact that there were so many impressive movies of similar genre (007, Mission Impossible etc..), nevertheless this is for sure a good company to be consider if you’re looking for an entertaining popcorn night out. :)

Thanks to NuffnangMY for the invites :)

Rating: 7.2/10~ ^^

(Plus One Shabu Shabu)@ Bandar Puteri Puchong

Marutama Ramen @ Fahrenheit 88, KL

Hey guys can you imagine how quickly time flies, it has been a year now since my last food post (well ‘sort of’ a year technically as we’re in 2014 now right XD). Anyway date doesn’t really matters, what to be focus on here is a piping hot bowl of noodles with exceptional chicken based broth, serves via a cosy little ramen shop hidden deep in a quiet corner of Farenheit 88, KL--- in case you still don't get it, Marutama Ramen is what I mean here ^^

Marutama Ramen @ 1st floor Fahrenheit 88 (Food Hot Spot area), Bukit Bintang, KL.

Simple yet cosy setting. Love the comfy & relaxing atmosphere :)
a gentle Japanese touch here & there, lovely :)
Once seated a simple menu with nice illustration on the varieties of ramen they serves will be given ^^

 Marutama Ramen - menu

Marutama provide a straight forward choice of soup for the ramen, simply choose either you would like to have a spicy or non-spicy chicken broth plus the combination of topping you prefer. I ordered the Char Siu Tamago Ra-men witseaweed, onion, ajitsuke tamago & char siu slices.. And here comes the most anticipated star of the post>>> huge bowl of mouth-watering ramen, which serves up pretty quick by the way (less than 10 mins) b^^d

Char Siu Tamago Ra-men (RM 27)
Their signature chicken based broth which boiled for over five hours in order to produce the thick savoury flavor is superbly delectable, luscious taste of nutritious chicken essence which you could easily distinguish it from those ordinary soup which utilise synthetic flavour enhancer. b^^d

The delightful Ajitsuke Tamago & mouth-watering char siu which literary melt-in-your-mouth is something worth trying as well. The noodles on the other hand isn’t as outstanding as I presume, yes the handmade noodles is firm & smooth which is nice, however personally I would like it to be more springy. Don’t get me wrong now, Marutama serves great ramen which definitely rank up high at my ‘Best ramen in KL’ list, maybe not perfect but still its great ^^

Ajitsuke Tamago (RM 2)
A good news for garlic lovers, Marutama offers unlimited crispy fried garlic slices & sesame for additional flavor ;)

crispy fried garlic slices & sesame.
some fried garlic to be added into your bowl, & it does taste better :)

So there you have it, one of the best ramen in town, available at Fahrenheit 88, Empire Shopping Gallery & Avenue K.
