Hokkaido Ramen Santouka @ Tokyo Street, Pavilion KL

Located at Tokyo Street of Pavilion KL (6th floor right section, on top of Harvey Norman), Hokkaido Ramen Santouka a.k.a. 山頭火 which started as a small ramen shop in Asahikawa, northernmost island of Hokkaido Japan back in 1988 has been named as one of the best ramen in KL since its opening years ago.

After an impressive encounter with MarutamaRamen @Fahrenheit 88 a couple of weeks ago, I’ve decided to give this restaurant which happen to be one of the renowned ramen chains worldwide a try.

The restaurant with a huge noren & Japanese design chandelier is pretty standout & easy to spot among all the other Japanese themed outlets.
a glance at the menu.
cozy interior, full house on Sunday lunch hour ^^

I went straight back to the basic- Char Siu Ramen with Tonkotsu soup. The medium sized noodle ramen comes with menma (bamboo shoot), kikurage (jelly ear), char siu and signature umezuke (pickled plum) toppings which is quite presentable.

Char Siu Shio (salt flavor) Ramen, regular portion, RM 30

I enjoyed having the luscious Char Siu with heavy distinctive taste of pork. The soup which claim to be quite salty by some who've tried turn out to be just nice for me. The aromatic broth with good sense of sesame was good but not excellent as I was expecting the pork bones based soup to have a more robust flavours since it takes up to 20 hours of simmering time before ready for serving. The tender & soft noodles blend well with the soup which is just nice but it would be even better if it is more springy.. Forgive me if I’m too fussy, just trying to set up a reliable standard :P

Miso (soybean paste flavor) Ramen, small, RM 22.50
Kara- Miso (spicy soybean paste flavor) Ramen, regular, RM 27

Lastly before I forget, here's something most people doesn't know about Hokkaido Santouka Ramen.. The mild, pearl-colored Tonkotsu soup is a rather unique broth as it is never boiled throughout the preparation, this is a purposeful act to ensure its own exceptional taste and flavor, so your ramen will be at an optimum temperature for tasting once it is serves.. no waiting, simply dig in right away~ v^^v *Like*
