Though I’m not a Muslim, however Ramadan means a lot to me as during this 9^thmonth of the Islamic calendar which observe as a month of fasting via Muslims worldwide, lies a wonderful moment which I love the most— Buka Puasa! :P A great moment where variety of mouthwatering Malay cuisines will be easily available across the streets, yeah~

So here’s a post to share with you guys one of those wonderful moments mention above — XPAX Buka Puasa @ Milk & Butter, Bangsar~ An enjoyable buka puasa buffet treat where blogger & some nice folks from the company get together, chill & have fun ^^  *clapclap* (Thnx to Fish for the invitation b^^d)

It has been a while since my last Nuffanng tastebuddies food tasting session, this time instead of traditional cuisine with luscious spices & ample taste as presented in "Warung Nasi Padang Ibunda" bukapuasa buffet preview, we brings you a very different kinda sensation.. Something international, sweet, cold & colourful, attractive to both children & adults.. Ring any bells? Simply look up at the starting title if you’ve missed it  :D

Though gelato isn’t really something new in Malaysia however here at NBrew these folks did things differently, being the first liquid nitrogen store in town, they serves a variety of trendiest made on-the-spot gelato & yogurt~ which not only unique in taste but equally fun to watch (watching your gelato crystallised before your eyes in a few minutes after placing an order, now that’s something you don’t see every day b^^d).

My favorite part of all, I've always wanted to make  −196 °C liquid nitrogen flow like this in lab, yeah! XD

If you are a fan of DIY, things just go better here at NBrew as you can actually make your own gelato step-by-step assisting by some friendly NBrew staff in lab coat. You get to play before you eat, how fun it is huh? Well we Tastebuddies, Shuttlebugs and Nuffies definitely enjoyed it to the max :D

RED 2 movie review: Nuffnang Premiere Screening

Ever imagine how life of a retired secret service agent looks like? Well for Frank (Bruce Will), Marvin (John Malkovich) and Victoria (Helen Mirren) who being labelled as Retired but Extremely Dangerous, there isn’t really much of a different as for these folks The Best Never Rest! :P

As a sequel to the 2010 film RED which inspired by the limited DC comic book series, the new American action comedy film RED 2 will be release on July 19, 2013. Despite the return of the over-50 crowd Bruce Willis, John Malkovich and Dame Helen Mirren, some younger acting blood (Catherine-Zeta Jones & Byung-hun Lee) will be seen in this upcoming sequel which is something worth anticipating :)

So here’s how the story goes:

“While trying to lead a normal life, former black-ops agents Frank is notified that his former employers are hunting for him as part of a cover-up related to one of his Cold War-era assignments.. Unwillingly being dragged back into the game, Frank now forced to race across Europe & Russia trying to clear his name with his old friend & enemies on his tail trying to assassinate him, and the situation escalate when they found out that things aren’t just a simple assassination assignment as they thought..”

Overall RED 2 is a standard Hollywood action comedies with nicely schedule pace & plot, wonderful stunts, funny verbal volleys, lots of back-to-back action and fancy explosion, which gives a pretty entertaining viewing experience throughout the nearly 2 hours screening time. However it really doesn’t have a whole lot new to offer as most of the interesting factors has been executed well in RED. For those who had watched RED, this will be a passably palatable sequel, not that it isn’t entertaining but there is simply a lack of stylistic scene and genuinely impressive tableau. Anyway RED 2 is still an enjoyable movie with fair share of surprises, hilarious reaction shots and sensational action scenes. ^^

舌尖上的对决——包子战之南翔小笼Vs小杨生煎

日前到中国走了一遭，从杭州一路向北，经江苏，转上海，游遍了美景如画般的江南水乡及繁华绚丽的都市风情，也尝遍了大江南北的各种美食，然而欢乐的时间总是特别短暂，转眼间十天的背包旅行结束了，我又回到了这熟悉的城市，带着满满的回忆，复杂纠结的心情以及好多好多的照片，当然其中美食与美景绝对是主角啦 ^^

那么话不多说，马上送上中国背包游的第一篇po文——苏杭上海趴趴走美食篇之包子的比拼 *掌声鼓励*

南翔小笼包及小杨生煎包，两者皆是名气响叮当的中式包点，虽然人气难分轩轾，但某种程度上这是一场不公平的对决，皆因南翔小笼的贵气与小杨生煎的平易近人一开始便让两种美食有着截然不同的市场定位及呈现方式。当然餐馆的规格也不一样，南翔走的是较高档的中国风酒楼，而小杨生煎则是亲民的连锁店模式。

不过话说回来，美食最主要的还是食物本身美味与否，而小杨生煎在这一点上可是丝毫不比南翔小笼包逊色，味道及卖相皆呈现了超标的水准，表现可圈可点，让人惊艳！b^^d

所谓口说无凭，那么接下来就直接让主角们登场亮相吧~ :)

招牌蟹黄小笼包，内陷以即日手工现挑的蟹肉为主角，口感非常丰富，浓浓的海鲜味搭配上姜丝与乌醋，一口一个，绝对是吃货们的一大享受(48RMB/6pc)。

贵气逼人的南翔传统鲜肉小笼包一笼六颗要价30RMB。内陷饱满味道浓郁，汤汁鲜甜可口，但面皮的顶部合口处略嫌偏干，影响了整体口感，稍嫌可惜。

亲切的小杨生煎，4颗只要价6RMB，CP值绝对爆表。内陷用料绝不手软，汤汁与肉馅饱满Q弹，肉香味十足，煎得焦焦的底部沾上白芝麻，表面香脆可口，真心好吃啊~ b^^d

结语：总的来说若单以美食CP值为指标，小杨生煎无疑略胜一筹，但若加上环境等考量，南翔小笼华丽的中国风装潢则更为体面咯，吃货们请依据个人喜好选择吧，要不都试也行 :P

The Lone Ranger movie review: Nuffnang Premiere Screening

From the producer of Pirates of the Caribbean Jerry Bruckheimer & Academy Award-winning director Gore Verbinski (also the director of Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl), stars by Johnny Depp as Tonto, The Lone Ranger is definitely one of the film which I anticipate for since viewing its first release trailer few months back.

“The film starts in 1933 San Francisco, where a young boy named Will bumped into a seemingly comes to life archetypal Native American while attending a Wild West exhibition. The Native American reveals himself to be Tonto, spirit warrior of Comanche who was once ride on the land of wild-wild-west together with John Reid, The Lone Ranger, a legend of justice.

Shifting back to 1869, the story of begin with John Reid returning home on a rail train which finally en route to Colby, Texas. Unbeknownst to John the train is also carrying an apprehended Tonto and outlaw Butch Cavendish. Cavendish's gang hijacks the train, which results in Butch escaping and Tonto' arrest by John and his brother Dan, a Texas Ranger. They later on begin an expedition to hunt down Butch which fail as the group is ambushed by Cavendish's men. What thought to be the end of John’s life turn out to be a new beginning when he eventually saved by Tonto & taking on the path to be The Lone Ranger.”

Could be worse? 

As the production of filmmaking team behind the blockbuster "Pirates of the Caribbean", The Lone Ranger obviously doesn't quite live up to the expectation, the lengthy & rather plain script with an obvious inconsistency issue might be the main reason for that. With the mind set of leaving absolutely nothing out (probably a tradition from the Pirates of the Caribbean), the Verbinski-directed Western icon reboot tend to incorporate just a little bit too much into its storyline, which result in a nearly 2 ½ hours screening time, making the supposed to be tightly constructed action-adventure thriller turn out to be a flat unsustainable quest.

However, though there is a downfall in script, wonderful quality of images & the things that work are worth seeing, thrilling combustible action, climactic train sequence, nice infuse of humor & black-comedy banter, occasionally surprising twist (Tonto's sad backstory is my favorite), the underlying theme and vision- how the West was won back in the old days, innocent blood spilt by natives protecting their land.. All these makes The Lone Ranger a not so shabby blockbuster movie overall, perhaps some cuts would help make it even better. ^^
